More than simply advice…

Recently I had a thoughtful young man message me about my latest endeavor Fat Then Fit Now. The young man asked me why I was running a weight loss business. Among his comments, he stated that he had lost a great deal of weight and he himself now  gives advice to people who ask for it.

That is commendable, but Fat Then Fit Now; A Life Beyond Weight Loss is not merely a few pointers and it is not solely about weight loss.

Fat Then Fit Now is an easy to follow plan, systematically arranged to help others win their own battle over obesity.

We have a real obesity problem. One that requires more than mere advice to be defeated. We need to take a methodical approach.  Side by side with those committed to a healthier way of life like Jimmy Moore, Gary Taubes,  Kimberly Hartke and other literary, research and internet sources,  Fat Then Fit Now provides such an approach.

Besides having lost well over one hundred pounds and remodeling my body, I do have other credentials.

I have Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees as well my Doctor of Chiropractic degree. In addition to my practice, I am also an educator, among college course I have taught are Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.

Because of the focus of my practice, I have had to attain additional training in Nutrition, Physical Exercise Rehabilitation, Neuromuscular Re-education, and Diagnosis and Treatment of Sports Injuries.

I have been honored to have been requested to be the team  Chiropractor for several profession and semi-professional sports organizations.

I have been humbled by being asked to appear on numerous radio, television and internet programs concerning the topics of Obesity, Fitness, Weight Loss and Childhood Obesity.

Back when I began my weight loss odyssey, I weighed in at whopping three hundred and forty pounds.  I took all of the above education and experience and developed an eating and exercise plan to not just lose a few pounds, but to redesign my entire life.

Because of that experience and education, I am fortunate to be able to  give to my clients and readers a complete program to not only lose weight and get fit, but to regain control of themselves and change their own lives. The book demonstrate ways to stay focused. It inspires the reader to go beyond what they think they are capable of achieving. It is more than just advice. It is an easy to follow blueprint to help the reader win their  own battle with obesity.

The young man also advised me that I should give my profits to “fat camps.” I do one day hope to establish some type of childhood obesity foundation. However, one of my clients pointed out, that if people would spend just under ten dollars to purchase my book, they would save all that money the fat camps cost, and perhaps there would be no need for any obesity related foundations.

Fat Then Fit Now; A Life Beyond Weight Loss

by Dr. Joe Leonardi, D.C.

After dropping well over one hundred pounds, redesigning my physique and recapturing my health, many people said I should write a book. I pondered the idea and when I decided to finally draft a manuscript, just as many people said, “Another diet book?”

In life we face many decisions, some difficult, other not all that difficult. When I opted to pen a book, I didn’t want to write just another diet or fitness book. I wanted to come up with something completely different.  I have been told by those that have read it that it isn’t really a diet or exercise book. It is a lifestyle book.

I started by skipping all of the long-winded, scientific gobbledygook that fills the pages of so many other books. Read More »

Fat to Fit

What does it take to get you to your goal?

How do you go about going from Fat Then to Fit Now?

First you have to figure out how you reached a state of obesity.

In my case, I detail in the last chapter of my book just how I got to 34o pounds. I had to do some serious soul-searching to realize that my problem started in childhood. It is important to discover the trigger that started one’s obesity problem.

Not for an excuse.

Not for a scapegoat.

Not to justify our weakness.

No, we must find the trigger so we can conquer one demon, the past, so we can conquer the current demon, obesity.

Once you figure out how you got there, deal with it and relegate it to the past.

Then  you need to formulate a plan. I am a strong advocate of low carbohydrate eating. There is much science out there to explain why the over-consumption of carbohydrates make us fat. It is beyond the scope of this blog to explain all that scientific mumbo jumbo.

If you are interested in the latest research and would like to stay up-to-date then  one of the best sites is Jimmy Moore’s Livin’ La Vida Low Carb Blog. I read it daily.

Once you get the basics of what you need to eat, you need to come up with an exercise program. It needs to combine some type of progressive resistance and cardiovascular work. Done at the right pace both types of exercises will not only condition your body, but help you burned stored body fat at an accelerated pace.

Finally, we need to keep our will power sustained over the long haul. In the beginning our enthusiasm is enough. However, over time it may be easy to slip back into the old ways. You might skip a workout one day, or have a sugar laden doughnut another day.
